Last Fall I posted an introduction to Josh Garrels, a singer/songwriter whose work I really enjoy. He’s currently doing a summer tour, and will be in Tennessee next week. On Thursday, June 28, he’ll be at The Camp House in Chattanooga, with the show starting at 8:00 p.m. The next evening, he’ll be playing at Nashville’s Community Bible Church from 7:00 – 10:00. Tickets for both shows are $10.
I appreciate music that is a little out of the ordinary, and Garrels’ definitely qualifies! He uses some unique instrumentation, including the entire range of the male voice. His lyrics are rich, and explore a wide variety of topics ranging from Biblical themes to Greek mythology. I love his creativity! You can see a couple of my favorite tracks at the link in the beginning of this post, but here are a couple more to whet your appetite:
“The Revelator” is taken from the book of Revelation:
In “Restless Ones”, he shows off his skills as a guitarist:
This video has added some great illustration to the song “White Owl”:
You can find more of his music (and lyrics to these songs) on his Bandcamp page. Whether or not anyone who reads this will be able to attend his shows next week, I hope I’ve converted some new fans! Let me know what you think.
His music is great. It’s profound in many ways. He takes the listener on a journey and makes one reflect. I swear his music is a journey!
“Journey” is a great word. He definitely knows how to tell a story and bring listeners into it! Thanks for the comment.
