Combing the Net – 6/22/2011

How to Eat a Cicada — Those of us in TN will have to store these recipes away for 13 years, but some people can still take advantage! Here are 16 ways to enjoy this rarest of treats.

Party Time in Boston! — Whoa… check out the six-figure bar tab from the Boston Bruins’ celebration after winning the Stanley Cup!

Super Star Destroyer LEGO Set! — Darth Vader’s flagship will officially be the longest LEGO set ever sold, once it is released later this year. Awesome!

Texas Mother Sentenced for Spanking — I certainly hope there is more to this story than is apparent from this article. A history of child abuse? Something besides “red marks” on the kid’s tush? Otherwise, it’s a terrible precedent. Spanking is a crime? Worthy of five years probation and parenting classes? Texans ought to be ashamed of this, and get rid of this judge.

Wal-Mart vs. Amazon — An infographic comparing the two mega-retailers. I, for one, am a big fan of Amazon! Speaking of Amazon, they have a pretty awesome deal of the day today. Sixteen AA or AAA batteries for only $7.75! If you’re like me, you’ll want to stock up.

Calvinists Who Love Wesley — This is a great article about how we don’t have to totally agree with someone’s theology or methodology to acknowledge their service to the kingdom and embrace them as a brother. Incidentally, I have certainly made the same remarks as John Duncan about the hymns of Charles Wesley (as a matter of fact, I’m pretty sure I made this comment as recently as last week): “I wonder how Charles Wesley could write that, and be an Arminian.” (HT: Trevin Wax)

Funny! Somehow a deer managed to get into this large church in North Carolina. You can read the whole story here. (HT: 22 Words)
