Combing the Net – 7/19/2011

We’re All Academic All-Stars — Why is that high GPA essentially worthless in the job market? For the same reason college degrees are increasingly worthless: everybody’s got one. This is a really wonderful article about how Christians should think about education, and why rampant grade inflation should matter to us.

How Christians Warmed to Harry Potter — I wonder… is the fact that it took so long for Christians to “warm” to Harry Potter a symptom of our general lack of engagement with (or creation of) good literature? (I hate to say “I told you so”, but I did love these books before it was cool! The movies? Not so much.)

Winnie-the-Pooh’s Long March to Cultural Dominance — As the father of a Pooh-obsessed two-year-old, I found this timeline really fascinating! (HT: Kingdom People)

10 Lies You Must Affirm In Order to Look at Pornography — An honest look at the dehumanizing practice of pornography.

MuteMath’s Odd Soul — This super-creative band has been one of my favorite groups to watch, ever since I first saw their breakthrough video for Typical (see below). Their newest creation certainly raises the bar in the world of Internet music! I can’t stop listening to and playing with the song on this website!
