Al Mohler’s Must-Read Books

Albert Mohler, president of the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, recently posted his annual list of “10 Books Every Pastor Should Read”. (This year, it’s actually 11!) Here’s the list, in alphabetical order:

  1. Collected Writings of Scipture by D.A. Carson
  2. Is God a Moral Monster? Making Sense of the Old Testament God by Paul Cogan
  3. Almost Christian: What the Faith of Our Teenagers Is Telling the American Church by Kenda Creasy Dean
  4. The Doctrine of the Word of God by John Frame
  5. God’s Glory in Salvation Through Judgment: A Biblical Theology by Jim Hamilton
  6. To Change the World: The Irony, Tragedy, and Possibility of Christianity in the Late Modern World by James Davison Hunter
  7. Heresy: A History of Defending the Truth by Alister McGrath
  8. Bonhoeffer: Pastor, Martyr, Prophet, Spy by Eric Metaxas
  9. The Letter to the Hebrews (Pillar New Testament Commentary) by Peter T. O’Brien
  10. American Grace: How Religion Divides and Unites Us by Robert Putman
  11. Souls in Transition: The Religious and Spiritual Lives of Emerging Adults by Christian Smith with Patricia Snell

Every year, Mohler’s list is worth checking out. Last year I ended up reading most of his list, and I’m glad I did! This year I haven’t read any yet, but already had #’s 3, 5, 6, and 11 on my shelf waiting to be read. After seeing this list, I added #’s 2, 7, and 10 to my Amazon wish list. Whether I’ll actually get to them all remains to be seen…
