Tornado in Cookeville

After weeks of unseasonably warm weather, something had to give. This week we saw several major storms hit our area. Cookeville was not nearly so badly hit as many towns on Friday, but there were several homes damaged, particularly in the community of Dodson’s Branch. Thankfully, there are no reports of injuries or deaths in Putnam County resulting from the storm system that saw at least two tornados pass through the area. A small one came through in the morning, with the larger one (which did most of the damage) in the evening.

For those friends and family from out of town who have checked in with us: thank you for your concern! We are blessed to have neighbors with a fully furnished basement who let us ride out the storm in comfort with them. Where we live it barely even rained! has a good roundup of articles from the TennesseanHerald-Citizen, and Cookeville Times about these storms. Those of you in Cookeville who are on Twitter should also follow @cookevillewxguy for great weather-related coverage in our area. (Click here for more recommended local follows).

Here are some pictures and video highlights from the storm. Please note that NONE of these pictures are mine! Most are posted at, which also has many more photos.
