Evangelical Superstition

Here’s a short clip from a recent message by David Platt that addresses one of my biggest frustrations within the evangelical subculture: the use of unbiblical phrases like “accepting Christ” and “invite Jesus into your heart”:

Unfortunately, the conference where this was spoken requires you to purchase the rest of Platt’s message. Fortunately, the vast majority of his preaching (which is consistently excellent) is available for free online. Here is an example of a sermon in which Platt offers a biblical explanation of how God works through faith to provide salvation for sinners. God doesn’t need our acceptance; we need His.

For much more from Platt on this topic, check out the resources available from last April’s “Secret Church” broadcast: Crucifixion, Salvation, and the Glory of God. It’s about five hours of teaching in all, but well worth the investment of your time and study.
