Here’s the latest video from The Piano Guys, who always do great work:
Here are some things I especially like about this video:
- Theme — I’m a big fan of the Jason Bourne movies!
- Cinematography — Their filming continues to get better and better, with ever-more creative locations. Playing on a train is very cool!
- Instruments — The metal cello is unique, and adds some great percussion effects as well. I also love the transparent top on the piano.
- Music — The Vivaldi Double Cello Concerto in g minor is a fantastic piece of music in its own right. I’m glad this viral video is bringing it more attention. Here’s the movement that inspired the above video:
There’s one thing that just bugs me, though. The theme music from the Bourne movies is catchy, but one of the things I love most about it is that it was composed in Phrygian mode. In the Piano Guys version, they changed the Bourne theme to Aeolian mode. Here’s the theme as it appeared in the movie:
I realize the change was necessary to mash up the movie theme with Vivaldi’s piece in g minor, but the music geek in me would rather they have found a way to keep the lowered second scale degree!
Most of you probably have no clue what I’m talking about. That’s perfectly okay; I’m the strange one here. I hope you’ve at least enjoyed the music, though!
