My Favorite Sports Tradition

The last three days have been a bit painful, as my beloved Nashville Predators were eliminated in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. As the game ended Monday night, I couldn’t bear to watch the post-game celebration, so I turned the game off as soon as the final buzzer sounded.

Today I was finally able to overcome the hurt and watch the handshake line, which is a very rare and special thing in pro sports. The NHL playoffs stir up a lot of emotion and animosity, but the teams and players are always able to set that aside almost immediately to congratulate the victors at the conclusion of the series. That sportsmanship is amazing to see (I’ve attended series clinching games four times so far), and one of the reasons that hockey is the best sport on Earth!

Congratulations, Phoenix. You deserved it.
